Product Description Zojirushi Automatic Rice Cooker Warmer NSRNC10
Amazon.com Review This electric rice cooker from Zojirushi provides useful capacity and handy details, not to mention the ability to keep rice moist, warm, and fresh for up to 12 hours after cooking is finished. The cooker is a good size for small families or couples, handling between 1 and 5.5 cups of rice at a time and requiring cooking times ranging from 12 to 24 minutes. Operation is incredibly simple--just add rice and water, depress the power tab, and walk away. The lock-tight lid maximizes cooking conditions, and the cooker automatically switches to keep-warm mode when the rice is finished. Indicator lights help you track what stage your rice is in, and the removable nonstick interior pot is clearly marked in cups and liters to guide you with quantities. The cooker's durable housing has a low-key pastel floral design, and the inner lid and inner pot can both be removed for hand-washing. Clever extras on this model include a retractable power cord, a condensation collector, and a spatula holder. Zojirushi also throws in a measuring cup and spatula. --Emily Bedard

Disappointed July 25, 2010 Hoosier Big disappointment, I see no difference b/w a $25 rice cooker and this one. Save yourself some $$ and buy something else!
Darn good rice cooker! June 18, 2010 M. J. Walters (Chicago, IL USA) In my never-ending attempts to cook healthy food, and do it easily, I've had a number of rice cookers, and I can report that Zojirushi is, across the boards, the best manufacturer I've tried. The Zojirushi NS-RNC10 Automatic 5.5-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer served me well for many years, cooking rice, grains and cereal to perfection. It's fast and reliable, and I was able to pass it along to a friend when I upgraded to a new Zojirushi late last year. (I wanted a combo slow-cooker/rice-cooker.)
If I have any quibbles, they're minor, and so far they seem to be common to Zojirushi rice cookers (And possibly all makes; I couldn't say offhand.) Sometimes, particularly if you're cooking large batches of rice or grain, the water bubbles up through the steam vent and it's really hellish to clean because of all the starch in the water. If the company could figure out a way to keep the cooking water out of the vent, these rice cookers would be damn near perfect.
This cooker is a time-saver, it's relatively versatile and it not something you're going to want to hide when company comes over. It's also a great boon to healthier eating, in my opinion, and that's worth the price. Give it a shot.
failing after 10 months of use May 20, 2010 K. L. (NJ) After using this rice cooker for 10 months, it started to stop the cooking mode in half the normal time. The heating unit would not come on, the rice was still raw and all the water was still in the pot. This happened a few times and the only way to 'fix it" was to unplug and replug the unit a few times before it would go through an entire cooking cycle. Since the rice cooker has a 12 months warranty, I sent the cooker back to Zojirushi American Corp, in Gardena, CA. Paid $15 to send it via UPS. After the technician inspected the unit, they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They said they tried it twice and it made a perfect pot of rice. They cannot do anything for the malfunctioning part since they think everything with the unit is perfect. They said, "Maybe it's the type of rice you are using." OKAY?!?!? How stupid do you think I am? "All we can do is send the unit back to you." I asked them what am I supposed to do when it starts failing again and it's after the warranty period? I am not going to waste more of my time and money to try and get this fixed. Therefore, I think that the customer service is lousy and they technical department needs to look at their machines a little more closely. What a waste of time. I would NOT recommend anyone purchasing this cooker. For the price, you would expect a perfect machine for a longer time and competant technicians who can fix a defect.
Not for Brown Rice! April 1, 2010 Yethu Design defect: Making brown rice generates more steam, which condenses onto the top. Zojirushi now tells me this model is not designed for brown rice. (Their website says that "perfect brown rice is made easy with Zojirushi rice cookers." FAQ15 They and Amazon need to conspicuously say that this model is not for brown rice.) As for the disappointing rice with less water, they said to try soaking the rice before cooking. (Which isn't in the instructions and isn't what I expected in an automatic cooker.)
Fantastic December 24, 2009 B. Beno (Bowie, MD United States) I have to say after reading other reviews this was a great purchase for us. We used our new rice cooker for family get-togethers as well as Potluck dinners with friends.
